Default Glue visible - new Martin D-18

Hi guys,

Recently I purchased a new d-18. This is my first high end guitar.
At the body there is some glue visible, only on one side. Also there is a spot where they didnt really did a good paint job.

Is this normal/acceptable for a new Martin guitar?

Thanks!

"Normal"? It's within their quality assurance standards.

"Acceptable"? That's up to you.

I can’t see your photos but if it’s white and next to the neck/body joint it may be compound and can easily be removed. Happened to me on a Martin D28 some years back.

Interesting that when quoting your post the photo links show up, but they are not active.

Try fixing.

I doubt that it’s glue on the outside, and a little bit on the inside isn’t unheard of.

Glue is not applied in this area. Likely polishing dust as mentioned by others.

I can't see your pics, but if you don't like it, take it back.

How's the action? Can you slide anything in there? If not, then it's a non-issue and should just scrape or buff out.

I can’t see the bad paint job, but the white material wouldn’t bother me.
As stated above, it can be scraped off.
Great guitar...enjoy!

I think there's some similar visible glue on my D-18 I got a few years ago. Didn't bother me much then or now.

I expected this to be visible glue related to the binding, which is unfortunately a lot more common than it should be on recent USA-made Martins, though it usually takes a few years for it to show up. That, on the other hand, has definitely bothered me and I hope that Martin has either very recently corrected the issue or that yours doesn't end up being affected.

Glue/binding issues aside, the D-18 plays and sounds fantastic. Enjoy!

Okee thanks guys! If it's only cosmetic I'm okay with it too. Just wanted to make sure that it didn't affect anything

My 2017 D-18 looks the same as yours. Non issue.

Likely polishing compound. Not a problem.
