Default Three Grand burning a hole...from a patron...new question thread page 2

What will I do with $3000.00 gifted me by a grateful fan. Yes, its quite the tip! I want to put it into a guitar for solo performance which is what I do. It has to be a guitar with few overtones, very high in clarity of strings when flatpicked and responsive to soft or harder picking. A Gibson J-45 comes to mind. What else? Oh, I play oldies, cover tunes and acoustic originals with vocals. I also play plugged in all the time so it has to be responsive to that. This will be a performance guitar.

I notice you dont have a Furch in your signature. Might want to check one of those out. The all solid ones start with the Blue series. Great guitars.

Quite the fun problem to have!

I’d suggest that you look for a Martin 000-28 or OM-28. Very versatile guitars, both of them.

As you seem to have a fair number of acoustics, but you say you always play plugged in, might I suggest an Eastman AR series archtop but with a floating p/up.

I once had an AR805e which had a full some acoustic sound, but played very nicely with the floating Kent Armstrong.

I now have an AR805 without electrics , which is more my style, but the Eastman archtops are superb instruments, and the pickups are now "Lollar" on the AR905CE /AR910ce etc. They also make versions with screwed on pickups, but then they aren't really acoustics any more.

Just a thought.

Martin 000-17 Whiskey Sunset or Black Smoke. I played one the other day and found it to be an excellent guitar for the kind of material you describe. Very lightweight, very dynamic, nice note separation for fingerstyle, with a timbre that is both woody and clear.

You are looking for performance guitar. Check into Takamine. They have some very nice electronics. And you will probably have enough left over for some other goodies.

Taylor 314ce. Versatile, playable and you'll have $ left over to buy a nice amp.

OP here,,,thanks for all these ideas. I will be looking into them and pull the trigger on one. I should take a trip to Seattle and play guitars. Where I live there are no Gibsons, Martins, Taylors, etc.

When you said this, I immediately thought of Furch as well. A nice sitka/hog would be a solid option.

Furch makes incredible RS Dreads.

Like this would be insanely good value: https://reverb.com/item/36629202-fur...orrified-sitka

In my experience, it’s tough to beat a good J45!

Sounds like a great road trip. Guessing that if you try a J45 and like it that's the one you'll choose (since that's the one you mentioned).

I would assume your Cole Clark comes with their proprietary pick up. Does it not sound good to you.

For a solo performer a D-35 with an LR Baggs Anthem (SL) would be my choice.
This guitar Covers a lot of sonic real Estate without being overly overtone-ish.
In the states You can probably get a new one with the pick-up for close to $3000 if you shop around
Maybe in your neck of the woods a used one might be the ticket.

But if Overtones are a major concern then a D-18 would do nicely.
Some mentioned Furch. Great guitars but they tend to have some overtones goin on.

Good luck on the search.
