Default Fire update

Here's the latest on the nearby fire.

We are about 4 miles north of the northern most part of a fire that is approaching 20,000 acres! There's a whole lot of empty back country in San Diego county.

They are predicting Santa Anna winds starting this evening. They always blow from east to west, so with any luck they will blow the fire away from us, and back on some of the area it's already burned.

We have Cindy's 100 Y O mother with us and we decided to go to the beach! What a good idea. We were not told to evacuate but we were told to be ready to evacuate. We decided to get out while the getting was good… I would hate to have to bail in the middle of the night!

I managed to get the OVERLORD off to John today, so I only have the big gun with me.

A dear friend came and evacuated my other guitars and a bunch of stuff from the house just in case. He is now having lots of fun playing all my guitars! Ha ha

Beth, I'm glad to hear you're well and improving!

Tom, thanks for your fine thoughts and prayers!

Everybody stay well and play pretty…

Paul

The beach is about the best place to be right now! Glad to hear you all are safe! These are trying times... the fire fighters are doing amazing things to protect all of us who live in CA, but the heat and now the potential winds are scary.

And in the midst of such challenging times, there are great guitars, built by gifted luthiers like John!

Be well and stay safe! I'm sure the folks down at the beach would love to hear some slide on your JK custom!

Smile Still at the beach

OK. we're still at the beach, and intend to stay here a couple more days .

At this point it appears that we will have a home to go back to. The fire is still well south of where we live, although the wind is blowing all over the place. So time will tell.

Everybody stay safe, be well, and as always, have fun

Oh, go John go!

Paul

Pic of the back strip inlay with "Joy juice". I LOVE IT

Thanks Hanter! We are back home and all evacuation notices around here have been lifted. Air quality is not great, but we are safe and we made nice lemonade, out of the evacuation lemon....

Praying for all those still in harm's way in so many places!

Meanwhile, Go John, Go.

The longer I build the more I seem to get away from advanced building technology. Here is my setup for bending the wood to line the sound port. The gas is so much quicker heating and easily controllable compared to electricity. I haven't used my bending forms and blanket for quite some time now. I may give up my electric bending pipe and go all gas.

Smile Yay

This cheers me greatly:

All great chefs choose to cook on gas. Thus the compliment: Now you're cooking
With gas...

Maybe one of Mark Hatcher's super duper Japanese hone guides for all your well loved chisels ???

Whee!!!

John is working on the sliding neck adjustment mechanism. Which is working very nicely on my last build (BIG GUN)!

Looking good. Yes John, that gas set up is about as bare bones as you can get! Pretty ingenious in its simplicity.
