EDIT: To be honest...I think the sound I'm going for is just the Trinity. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NaxgAQGRtQ8 Hopefully I can replicate that with the Anthem! At the same time, this is as close to an identical set up as one can get: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GkPXy...hannel&list=UL Aside from the crazy reverb, I'd be happy with that.

You mean for the antoine dufour cover video? The only gear he has listed is the K&K, though of course that doesn't mean a whole lot. I also can't tell if it sounds remarkably like Antoine because of the style or a similar set up. I'll work on touching up a few of his pieces.

"it's not the pure pickup sound. i also recorded with a condenser mic. Nevertheless K&K Pickups sound great." No pickup sounds like that alone

Working on it haha. I had the mics as close as I could get them without accidentally hitting them. Unfortunately I had to roll some of the low end out of the mic because it really clashed with the anthem. Maybe I'll try to roll out less. Not sure. I would assume part of that largeness has to come from, well, having a larger guitar. My Taylor is petite, thin and lacks any sort of low end.
I also used an XY pattern, which as you know isn't as wide as a spaces pair. I haven't been able to get my mics in phase today though. And I was just improvising in open Dm.

I would think that this would be in phase?

OK, got it. Really nice stuff from him.
He has a great sounding guitar. He's playing in at least one open tuning on his pieces, which can definitely make things sound "bigger." Because the low notes sound below open E and A, the span of notes sound noticeably wider than standard tuning. These make it sound bigger. Does that resonate with you? Regards, Ty Ford |

I always used a spaced pair, I can't stand the way XY sounds. I used it because I was tired of not being able to get my mics in phase as a spaced pair. you're correct

I've got two more for ya. I stopped looking at the correlation meter and just used my ears. I set each mic so it sounded good on it's own, then tweaked them so they worked in mono as a pair. After the recording I spread them in stereo.
I have a version with the LR Baggs Anthem and one without. I used a bricasti reverb impulse. https://soundcloud.com/fichtezc/autumn-roads-no-pickup https://soundcloud.com/fichtezc/autumn-roads-pickup I guess soundcloud's player is still kind of weird, they sound a bit different uploaded than they do on my computer. I uploaded them as WAVs and made them available for download however.

Liked the no pickup one best. That's a nice sound for such an inexpensive mic: clean, and crisp but not harsh.

Yeah, for the first time in a long, long time I really like the sound I'm getting. Thanks to all the people who pushed me towards the Oktavas. ...now improve my pres/converters.
