Default String gauge for 0 and 000 finger picking

Can anyone help me with string gauges? I'm just wondering what you guys recommend in the way of string gauges for a single 0 and triple 0 guitar.

I have been using daddario nickel 11 52 in types of d open tunings and sometimes as far down as C. I feel that these custom lights are way to light almost wirey or thin and stringy while easy to play in some ways but difficult for rhtymical finger picking. Lacking bass.

I don't have a ton of money to experiment but what is the general opinion for these smaller guitars in open tunings for finger picking and appropriate string gauge? I was thinking of going up 2 steps to a medium gauge?

It really depends on the guitar. I have 11-52 on a Martin 000, but I recently tried a set of 12-56 on a Collings 000 and they were a big improvement. If you are playing mostly tuned down, I would definitely try heavier strings. Of course it also depends on your scale length, there are so may variables you really need to experiment.

Hi, regarding smaller guitars, I have a Collings 0002h, a Waterloo
WL-12 and a British made 0028.

I put D'addario EJ16s (12-53) on all.

I've been "yearning" for a Martin/Collings style 00 on which I would also use the same strings.

I've just checked boh the Collings and the Martin websites and both 00 and 0 size guitars are shown to recommend 12-53/54 lights.

I can't speak about your alternate tunings. I have a friend who has a Collings OM3 and know that he uses even lighter strings, but I don't know which.
