Default New Spec Pina Parlor

I'm going through my woods today and thinking about my next spec guitar.
I want to do another Pina parlor maybe with a cutaway. I was looking at this combination of flamed Redwood and flamed Claro:

I would trim it in African Blackwood, open headstock, walnut neck, probably abalone all around. What do you think?

I think that would be awesome, Mark--great choice of woods and appointments! Love how the red-orange tones in the walnut pick up on the redwood. Beautiful stuff...

They look great to me also, but when does your wood selection not work? I have been thinking about a parlor with walnut and cedar top???? Redwood, hmmm, I will be watching closely and saving pennies....

Thanks Nemoman!

I think the combination works very well both color wise and tone wise.
I usually stay away from Redwood because I find it a bit fragile at the thicknesses I typically go to on my tops. However, because a parlor is smaller it will have a thicker top. That may seem counterintuitive but when the top is smaller it still needs to support the same amount of string tension as a larger top. So I get my thicker top and am a bit more comfortable using Redwood.

Thanks TomB'sox,

Cedar and walnut are a great combination. I'm making cedar and Black Walnut Greta for cigarfan right now. Redwood has similar characteristics to cedar so we're off to a good start!

Thanks Again!

Thanks ross748,

I really like the combo. What concerns me though is it seems that lighter topped guitars are easier to sell. I suppose I'll only need one customer though

Man oh man that walnut is to DIE for. Some of the best I've ever seen.

Thanks Mark!

I resawed this from a billet I had and I now have several sets. I've been eager to build a guitar with it.

I think your Redwood/Walnut woods are gorgeous and make for an awesome tonewood combo. That redwood is going to look unbelievable under finish.

Thanks cigarfan,

I look forward to starting up on this one. Of course, I've got a really nice cedar on Black Walnut Greta going right now

All I can say is...that Piña número uno is just perfect with the englemann over the gaboon Ebony!

This makes for THE best sounding parlor I ever heard.

I'm glad that parlor is sounding good for you! I was very happy with the design and am looking forward to trying it out with different woods.

Thanks
