Hi JoeCharter,

This is a GREAT looking and sounding guitar. GREAT playing in your clips too. I LOVE Jim Olsons work - its definitely an influence on me as a builder with his quality and work ethic. Its amazing he can build that many guitars at one time. His shop is great too!

I have a quick question about the neck on your Olson Tree guitar. As a builder, to be able to ask the owner of a guitar 'how the neck feels?', is valuable. From what Jim has shown me, they are not thick - he told me "99% of them are this shape". Would you say this is a "medium" feeling neck to you or would you describe it as 'slim'?

Guitar sounds and looks great!!!

Thanks - Kevin.

JoeCharter - sorry for chiming in again, but I was looking through the spec's again on the first page of this thread and I overlooked the 'thicker neck' spec in the listing.

I read through the whole thread the other night but I don't remember if you mentioned the neck feel (may have missed it though).

So this probably a medium feeling neck?

Also - I've read elsewhere that there are sets of 'The Tree' still available? Where can a guy pick a set up? I've never come across that info.

Thanks again.

Kevin.

Hi Kevin,

Thank you for your posts.

I'm not the best guy to ask regarding neck size as I generally find people's association between neck size/shape and playability to be highly exaggerated. To me, it goes in the same basket as scale length, BRW and fanned frets. It just doesn't make as much of a difference as some people would like to believe it does (or persuade others into believing that it does).

So yes, the neck is "thicker" than the typical Olson -- but by Jim's own words, it still isn't that thick of a neck. That's pretty much how I feel as well.

As for "The Tree" mahogany, I know of some luthiers who stock a few sets but I wouldn't know whether they want to sell it. I would love to own another guitar with this tonewood myself!

Hello folks,

I haven't posted any videos in a while and finally took a break from work tonight to setup the camera.

I'd been working on an arrangement of JT's "Sweet Baby James" for a few days now and figured out most of the phrasing by now.

The video is a bit out of focus -- but I hope you like the audio nonetheless.

Here's the video: http://youtu.be/E4ubHQEQPKY

As always, thanks for watching.

Hi Mau,

Geez, that piece was so sweet! Especially the 2nd verse with the higher melody line... Great job on one of my favorite JT songs, Mau! That Olson sounds wonderful as does your playing.
