Emerald Guitar Specs

One of the processes I'm using in trying to justify another Emerald guitar or not, is to compare the specs of my present X7 and X20 to the new Emerald offerings.

So I put this chart together.

Not sure if it's helping much but I was surprised to see my X20's overall length is 1/2" longer than the X30.

Maybe this chart can help others.

I think the difference in X20 and X30 overall lengths is due to the X30 being 12 frets to the body instead of the X20's 14.

I think the proper justification is: your heart telling your head, "Hey, I talked it over with the fingers, and we need one of those!"

To paraphrase the justification I used to live by in my younger years: when choosing between two evils, I tend to go for the one I haven't tried, yet. Apply that to the Emeralds: pick one you haven't tried, yet. (Oh, there are no evil choices there.)

I think the X7 body being ever so slightly larger and deeper than the previous iteration is making it my next guitar. Custom woody (of course) in cocobolo (of course) to match its big brother. Custom neck carve and 24.6" scale with K&K. On the fence only with the string spacing. The custom X20 I went with 2 1/4" but since then picked up a guitar with 2 5/16" and find I like that extra space.

Good job to the OP on the side-by-side specs. Very helpful.

That's my thought, as well. I was surprised by that 1 11/16" nut width, then sat down and played my Taylor T5 for a while... that is a comfortable neck. The X10 is supposed to have a thinner neck profile as well. That would work well with the slightly narrower nut width.

With all the chit-chat before the unveiling, I was expecting an X10; thought it would simply be between the X7 and X20 in size. Then, the X7 grew a bit, and this X10 appeared... with size specs that are close to the X7, other than the neck. I think this guitar will be a different animal from the other two. I'm anticipating a great sounding acoustic that plays more like an electric... with some interesting plugged in options.

It will likely be controversial, considering that humbucker pickup for the second level pickup option. I am assuming there will be some way of blending the two pickups (from the info on Emerald's site).

A definite departure from the T5 (one of my favorite electrics, btw), with the 5 position switch; it looks like the X10 is a true acoustic that will allow some interesting electric tones... thus that "controversial" comment above. There are acoustic players that scorn the use of any pickup - this guitar looks to be one that embraces the plugged in sound.

I have mentioned here how much I enjoy the X7 plugged in. The X10... in the words of the philosophers The Pointer Sisters: "I'm so excited..."

I like how Alistair doesn't give us "what we expect."

I agree. I just wonder, with a different neck can it also be a Goldilocks acoustic? It seems to be Goldilocks size.
