Default Fret Buzz killer

When you have a buzzing string - STOP! Before you get out the fret leveler, and before you get out the fret file, get out this tool:

It's a fret setter.

A couple of taps on the offending fret with a pretty brass hammer frequently does the job. It's amazing - I've fixed a bunch of buzzing frets this year with just this little tool. And, even if the fret looks seated, give it a tap anyway, you might be surprised! This one was purchased on eBay.

Hmm, I have some hex stock brass and steel. I may make one, I am sure round stock would work just as well.

Any problem with denting the fret?

My frets are EVO, so no. But seeing as brass is the traditional fret hammer material, I would guess it’s softer than nickel silver. And, as I remember it,nickel silver is an alloy of brass (copper and zinc) with some nickel added to increase hardness.
