Default Masters of the Plectrum Guitar

On Steve DeRosa's recommendation, I purchased this book last week during their 30% off sale and it arrived today. This is a thick book full of arrangements, and is spiral bound so it lays flat, making it much easier to work from.

Note that Mel Bay seems to always be cycling through its discounts. This week, it is 15%, but wait a few weeks and the 30% off sale will be back.

Going to youtube, I found performances of nearly every piece in this book. It is clear to me that there are entire worlds of music that I am simply not aware of, and this venture is certainly an eye-opener.

I would suggest that those interested in owning, or already owning an archtop, explore this book. It will provide YEARS of rewarding material to work on.

Listen to the various performances available on youtube and you will be amazed at the sheer quality of this material.

Thanks Steve!

Tony

Incredibly cool book. You're going to have some fun.

I used to do "April Kisses," borrowed heavily from the arrangement in this book. You've inspired me to relearn this one!

Another take on "April Kisses," using a period-correct '28 L-5; love the warm, woody tone he gets in the B-section - an excellent example of "coaxing the velvet out":

Another fine performance. It seems that this style of playing is alive and well.

I have this book and highly recommend it. Be sure to check out the many exceptional performances of this material by Rob Mackillop on YouTube. Discovering Robs music was a watershed moment in my guitar playing.

When I searched for the tunes in that book on youtube, several performances were from Rob. He hangs out in the jazz guitar forum and apparently has a new book from Mel Bay these days.
