I just measured the thickness of the sides of my X20s - just through the soundhole. I used a small block to get around the lip of the soundhole, and subtracted its thickness from the caliper reading.

It came out to be ~0.16", which is between 5/32" and 11/64", or about 4mm for you metric types.

Quite what anyone will do with this piece of information, I don't know - but I was curious

I recall roughly 4-5 mm on mine as well.
The RainSong was like 1.2 mm if I recall on that!

Default Looking for Emerald vibrant vs standard weave comparisons

RainSong uses a composite nomex type material in their “Projection Tuned Layering“ process as well, but it is on the top and not back and sides.

You can clearly see how much thicker the X30 is than my RainSong, which is ONLY carbon.

I did grind away the outer layer of carbon on the piece when I was done, and it was a honeycomb interior core. I don't know the manufacturer, but probably something like this.

https://compositeenvisions.com/produ...core-material/

So basically, on a vibrant weave, the inner layer will be carbon. The core will be the (assumed) Nomex core, then the outer layer will be the silver covered carbon layer. So, I would anticipate zero tone change from such a miniscule change on an essentially cosmetic layer.

The materials on the X30 also explain why it's so heavy. That's a lot of extra resin and material. Also explains the tone difference from the X30 to the RainSong. The RainSong has MUCH more flexibility.
That is fasinating. I know my Rainsong JM1000 is crazy light for as big as it is. It would be really interesting to see the top construction. Would the top have the same core?

Yeah, my RainSong is around 4 lb 7 oz (Black Ice Jumbo) and the Emerald X30 (before the StagePro) was 5 lb 13 oz.
The RainSong is LIGHT. Almost too light. A bit of heft is nice sometimes.
