Thanks Ron !!!

The next few photos are of the headplate veneers and their inlays (initials of the customer), followed by the fretboard "falling leaves" and start of the vine which continues around the soundhole.

Christian.

Christian, the falling leaves and vines coming from around the soundhole will be stunning; and I don't think I've ever used the word stunning before, except when it comes to a work of art.

Cheers, Jerry for the very kind words !!

Further pics on the neck process, routing the neck shape, trussrod slot, installed frets, and the final shaped neck.

The all important lining up of the rosette and fretboard, also the bridge placement, not long to go now.

Christian.

Finally sprayed this guitar last week, and wow did it come alive.
thrilled with how it looks, I'll wait another week before i'll cut it back and buff it.

Cheers,

Christian.

Firstly Kia Ora! And welcome to the Forum!
Man your work is great!!I love the aqua purfling against that stunning wood! Are there any New Zeland Tonewood sources you would recommend for non-kiwis like myself? Like companies you would consider reputable and fair?

Kia Ora JazzandBeyond,

Thanks for the warm welcome, and kind words about my work.
I get many enquirys about New Zealand tonewood supplies, unfortunately we have quite strict laws on native timber, preventing us from exporting anything in an unfinished state, the only way that I might be able to get around it is making up kitset guitars.
But in saying all this somehow Ancient Kauri (the back and sides of this guitar)
is readily available around the world. I couldn't recommend any companies in the US selling it, and I would question the quality of it, as only a very small percentage is suitable for instruments.
I would maybe email The Kauri Kingdom http://www.ancientkauri.co.nz/
they are the direct source of this timber, they might be able to help.

Cheers,

Christian.

Hi Christian,

Its really great to see a fellow Kiwi doing such excellent work, I love it, how would you describe the sound of a Kauri guitar? Cheers.

Thanks Rosco !!!

Kauri/Ancient kauri guitars always exhibit huge sustain, theres a real warmth and colour to the tone, seems to almost envelop the player.
Its quite different to the norm spruce/rosewood sound not better or worse in my opinion just different.

Cheers,

Christian.
