back in the 70's it was a 'thing' to use a brass saddle and nut. It was a very bright, harsh tone, and the fad didn't last long.

Yeah, brass appointments on acoustic guitars are tone-killers, pure and simple.

I have a Daion Dread with a micarta saddle and Elixir Polys 11-52. It's very lively and loud, and I can imagine that a brass saddle would take it into the same territory as yours. To anyone who wants to try a brass saddle, a lot of them are on the thin side, so order oversized, if possible, and then sand/file them to fit. Oh, and the free shipping, that's interesting, too.

I'm not a fan of brass saddles on acoustics at all. That said, back when I worked as a recording engineer, there was a certain type of alterna rock song that had an acoustic guitar strumming over it where a thin, bright sound was what was needed and a brass saddle could work wonders in this situation. The guitar would sound terrible on it's own but worked great in the mix. I actually learned this trick from a pretty well known producer who kept a Taylor with a brass nut and saddle at his studio for when it was needed.

Mass produced Soviet acoustic guitars all had uncompensated brass saddles, both 7 and 6 strings guitars.
