I really am curious how much this guy spent. Because wow.....
this is a big reason why I would never buy a guitar from a luthier who's work I haven't seen. I've seen some $99 musician friend guitars that were better made than this.

Crude workmanship, but we don't know how much this cost or how it plays and sounds.
I'd rather have a guitar that looks like this that plays and sounds good than a very pretty one that is stiff and tight and lifeless sounding. If this was not very expensive, and if it happens to be decent to play, this might not be quite the atrocity it seems. Of course, if the builder represented his/her work as high quality workmanship, and a high quality guitar is what was promised, that would be a different matter. I would never buy a guitar I had not seen from a builder without having a lot of experience with that builder's past work, and I would not buy a guitar I had not seen and played in person unless there was a good return policy. My first thought was that it's not April 1st yet. Did anyone else notice the bridge shape looks very similar to those found on Taylors?

Did your friend not see the guitar before he bought it?

Im about to finish my first build from scratch, and my craftsmanship is WAY better than that and i had no previous wood working experience (ofcourse not on par with the rest of the amazing luthiers on this forum, but hope to get there)!! So i can only imagine that this was either done too fast to get the money in their hands, or by someone that just flat out doesnt care about the product they are making, which in that case they should not be a luthier!

I just hate it when building a guitar gets in the way of a good Tequila buzz..

I know that this will not be a popular post but in my opinion anyone who builds a guitar of that quality and gives it away should not be named ...
But anyone who sells it as the product of a luthier or custom builder deserves to be named and shamed - the price is irrelevant!

I think the whole story needs a lot more context before an opinion is formed. If you show close ups of shoddy workmanship with no other context whatsoever, of course the pitchforks and shotguns will come out.

However I am sure the owner contacted the builder. What were the owner's expectations and price paid? Did he return the guitar right away? What did the builder offer? Full refund or another build? Of course the craftsmanship is terrible, but above all it looks rushed.

Thoughts on this guitar - I see some poor and shoddy workmanship - Is this acceptable - Whad'it cost? Howz'it sound? I know - some people will argue that it does not matter what it cost, its unacceptable. Good for you. I know I've bought a few guitars at flea markets and garage sales that have been very badly repaired or abused, but if the action and playability is decent, and I've gotten them really cheap, I play them a while and then I have no problem just giving them away - I mean, there are people making guitars out of cigar boxes and 2x's. Based on those pics, I'd expect to see at least a dozen pics of every other detail just as badly done.

Eric, what is the point of this thread?
You have been around good custom guitars enough that you don't need to ask for public judgment of the workmanship on this one. It's apparently not your guitar. You have only seen it in emailed photos from "a friend." Yet you say you have been dealing with it since July. How come? What's your interest in this?
