Active pickups and wireless systems?
The pickups in my situation are in the T5z and the wireless system is the new Xvive U2. I don't know if this has been discussed, so forgive me if it has.
I'm hearing a high pitched "buzz" when employing these, and wondering if any of you have experienced something similar. Thanks for you input. |

I’ve used Line6 G30 & G50 systems with my T5z and have never had any problems.

The Carvin WG5 Wireless Guitar and Bass System works just fine - no buzz or hiss - on my T5Z.

I tried the Xvive and it worked great with my Taylor ES 1.3 but had a terrible buzz with the Baggs Lyric in my D-18. I sent it back. I’d like to have one unit that works for both.

Xvive U2 will not work with active pickups. Says so on the ad for them on Amazon. At least it was when I bought one a long while back although they didn't go out of their way to make is super clear.

Yep. True. Saw it on a different ad from Sweetwater.

My Line 6 G10 works perfectly with my active Godin A8 mandolin but not with my Octave Mandolin (active Headway) or Fishman Matrix system. I tried the Sennheiser XSW-D and it worked with all of them but it was noisy. Might have been a faulty unit but I haven't had the urge to order another one.

G30 lover here, Never has this failed me.. not once. (well,, wait a sec.. the battery door opened during a show one night,, and THAT wasn't pretty. Every try to find two AA batteries on a dimly lit stage? yea, you don't wanna do that) but. other than that...

Sean: Glad to hear the Carvin works well. I'm curious about the build quality. Is it cheap plastic? Heavy duty plastic? I'm used to my Shure which is all metal, but I'd like the sheer convenience of something like the Carvin. Thanks |

I have a related thread on I think a similar issue. I think it’s a TRS issue. Check your transmitter plug. The g10 has a TRS tip, and depending on where your guitars ts “s” falls on the plug, you may get no signal, humm, or no problems. For me, I went from zero signal to working fine by using a TRS right angle adapter! It’s included with the g10, so they must be aware. I thought it was just for changing the angle of take off. Apparently it fixes the TRS issue too.

My Carvin WG5 5.8GHz Wireless System works flawlessly with every active pickup/preamp system I've played through it. I can't hear any difference in my amplified tone between it and my Mogami Gold Instrument Cord. The Carvin WG5 is plastic and seems fairly rugged but I'd be gentle with it when plugging-in and unplugging it as well as avoiding the dropsies on a concrete floor. For a $150, or less when on sale at Carvin, this device is a no-brainer!

But there is another issue, if the transmitter emits enough RF power and your guitar picks it up and rectifies it you will get noise. For rectification to happen you need an antenna and a (parasitic) diode, of which there will be plenty in many active guitar pickups (ie. a less then ideally shielded active guitar which you will see if you look inside your Martin or Taylor for a large unenclosed circuit board).
