Wonderful guitarist in the classic rock tradition. Plays just what the song needs. Not super flashy, but really good.
I saw them at rhythm and roots fest in
RI. Years ago. They started the day at

The incomparably wonderful Mr. Michael Chapman.

I probably wouldn't be playing guitar any more if it wasn't for him.

Yep, nobody has ever heard of any of these guys. You could also have included
Stefan Grossman, Phil Keaggy and Tommy Emanuel in there ...

For a truly unknown yet world class player, ( who btw is also a world class luthier), check out the amazing Steve Hicks.

Wow, wonderful playing. I loved watching him go up and down the neck so fluidly, but what particularly struck me was how effortless it seemed for him to just plant his index finger at the fifth fret and play over three or more chords as if they were in the open position.

Good thread, haven't had time to checkout all of the recommendations , gotta love YouTube for being able to be exposed to so many good artists. Here are a few of mine:

Fingerstyle Blues:

A couple of guys who spent time with the Rev Gary Davis
David Bromberg
Ernie Hawkins

Jerron "Blind Boy" Paxton
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kDc228i4Jwg

Picker:
Steve Young
Off of his excellent "Honky Tonk Man" album
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UnAX78ePkzw

Dave Rawlings - for his phrasing
Kenneth Pattengale of The Milk Carton Kids - same deal, interest phrasing/breaks

Don’t think anyone has mentioned Emil Ernebro from Sweden. Love his finger style arrangements. Here’s a YouTube video of his arrangement of Misty

My favorite fingerstylist is Laurence Juber, but I consider him to be well known.

The most impressive guitarist I've ever seen, by quite a margin, is Luca Stricagnoli... and he's only 28 years old!

Hi Malcolm.
I wish I could have withdrawn that comment. I really had no idea about his death etc.

I used to have an LP by Ton. He certainly is/was a monster guitar picker!
