Default Can someone help me find info on this Gibson?

I was at a friends yesterday, and he pulled out an old Gibson, a Les Paul jr. I think, that he needs info on.

It was his mom's guitar and it was in near mint shape, pretty much hasn't been touched in 45 years.

My friend is guessing it to be from around 1962, and the serial number is 0 7628

Can anyone help trace this down, as far as what specific year it is, maybe some info on how rare or not that it may be, etc?

Looks to be 1960? (I think)

Here's a 1955 for $xx,xxx

And here's a 1969 for $xxxx

Before finding these I would have guessed anywhere fro $xx,xxx to xx,xxx. It depends on originality and condition. Sounds like you have a gem there. I would find a good "VINTAGE" guitar shop and have it appraised.

picture would be nice to help us but you could probably contact gibson with the serial number and they could tell you what it is.
i'm enclosing a link to a pdf file showing gibson serial numbers. look at the bottom of page 2 where it shows that the "0" would equal 1960. so it appears to be a solid body guitar, and you mentioned a les paul jr., but these serial numbers won't tell you what it is exactly.

good luck; sounds like you have a great old one!!

I only saw it for a few minutes the other night, but it's bascially this guitar.

It's 100% original, and in acceptional condition. The only issue I see other than light scratches on the back, are that the tail piece and the volume/tone knobs have oxidized from sitting in the case for 45+ years without being played.

And it's not my guitar, it's a guitar left to a friend's family, and they're trying to figure out what it's worth. I thought I might be able to get a price range for the guitar, so that they wouldn't get ripped off by the first low ball offer they get.

Oh, and I see that the prices are blocked on this website, so if anyone has price range guesstimates, please pm me.

No offense intended, Monsoon, but unless you've got some expertise in this area, that's a big statement to make re. a high-end vintage guitar. Unless you've removed the covers and examined the pots, wiring, etc to confirm they're original, that's the work of someone more knowledgeable. Replacing a single part can badly damage the market value.

Yes, the serial number indicates the neck was made in 1960, probably toward the end of the year. I sold a near-mint '59 LP Special, in TV color, 2 years ago, with good-condition original case, for $13K to a private collector. (Shops like Gruhn's will offer considerably less than individuals; the extra time and effort were worth it for me.) My understanding is the Junior is of approximately the same desirability and therefore, should fetch in the range of $5K ("player" condition, but mostly original, no cracks) to $15K (mint, with original case.)

(Since we are talking individuals who are buying, I don't think we're running afoul of the AGF rule re. price discussions.)

I suggest your friend have the guitar reviewed and appraised by someone in the business.
