Yea, David's been playing a Rainsong Jumbo for many years. In fact, in 2010 Rainsong introduced the David Wilcox limited edition, and in early 2011 we had a special event featuring David and his new signature model. Here's David tuning up before the show. And yes, that's Kevin Nealon and Clint Black just arriving.

I know it would not affect David, but I surely would be intimidated to have Clint Black in the audience a few feet away from me.
I got to study with David Wilcox at the Acoustic Alaska Guitar Camp about a dozen years ago, and hang out around the campfire and after hours jams. It was a special experience. In one class, he expounded contemporaneously about his "empty wooden box" for about 15 minutes, and all that it has given him. I sure wish that speech were available on tape somewhere, as it was more inspirational than any Ted Talk. What a sweet guy. During the mid-week instructor concert in the auditorium at UAA (University of Alaska - Anchorage) the power went out suddenly - all PA and stage lights. David just kept playing acoustically and did not miss a beat. The transition was so smooth that it seemed like part of the show, until we found out afterward that the lighting panel had fried. |

First time a saw David he had his Olsen guitar and it sounded heavenly. The second time I saw him he had the Rainsong. It was a great show but i missed the sound of the Olsen (It was the same venue)
But if I had an Olsen I think I would leave it home and take the Rainsong

Years ago--maybe 1996 or so--some friends opened for David in Hampton Roads, VA. David sat down with us before the gig started and watched with visible pleasure at my friend Brent Gable playing 'Leave It Like It is', if memory serves.
He was fascinated at how Brent managed to find all the notes in standard tuning. Afterwards, David asked if he could eat some of the bowl of salad I had in front of me. Of course, says I. A very fine gentleman. The show was awesome! BTW--he was playing the Olson and it sounded fantastic. |

I could see how that would throw some folks, but you are right about David, he definitely was not fazed. A genuinely nice guy, BTW.

I saw DW a few years ago playing a Rainsong.......with a Telecaster drop-in bridge!
I'll see him again when I can. Really enjoy his work. |
