00-28, go to grevenguitars.com. John show you how this joint is made. He has made over 2300, highly thought of guitars, with his own hands. I feel fortunate to own one.
John's version is slightly different than the Eastman version. The Eastman style has a greater gluing area and should be more damage resistant, if the guitar falls on to it's headstock. |

yeah as Bentay says, Eastman use a (neck) scarf joint as in the picture above which is a sensible use of valuable timber.
The part that's confusing folks is the 'volute' , it's not part of the joint it's carved / shaped at the head end of the neck shaft which on my E6 is 17 mm depth at the heel block (excluding fingerboard of course) plenty enough to add a cosmetic nod to the past when the 'volute' was used to make the then used V neck too body joint viz, here in this V joint you can see the excess material of the neck shaft and triangle before neck and volute shaping. (this in not how Eastman do it !. v joint making video for those interested, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KocJHchKVZQ this is how Eastman do it, as you can see from the projection lines (in black) of the neck shaft theres enough material to shape a volute. Eastman vs Martin
I know this is an older thread, but still very interesting. I just bought the Eastman E20P and found that sound-wise it's actually a lot closer to the Martin 00-42sc or even the 00-45sc, because the Eastman also has an Adirondack top. The Martin 00-28vs sounds very different. The sound of the E20P is impressive, but mine needs a serious setup job. I own 3 Martin Guitars as well, and the build-quality of Martin is much better, BUT, as I said, the E20P has the same woods and is not far from the sound of the Martin 00-42sc and 45sc for MUCH less money. I was impressed! Maybe I just received a good example of the E20P, but even with a Martin we always have to find THE guitar; not all are great.
Best! Mike |

Eastman E20P
Glad someone brought this thread up with a recent purchase evaluation. I just bought this guitar today from a place in AZ (I'm in CA). Never played an Eastman, but I own a great 1927 Martin 00-18 with Adi top and mahogany back / sides. Same scale length and wide nut width. The E20P is Adi top with Rosewood back / sides. I was considering acquiring a vintage Martin 0-28, but don't really want to spend a bucket of money. I should have it by weeks end, and will write my impressions after getting acquainted!
