Default Stain questions

I recently purchased another Martin JR. I picked it up off craigslist for pretty cheap. The original owner thought he would try and make it look vintage. The pickguard was removed and he sanded down a couple placed to make it look worn. I thought I could sand the entire body down and restain it with Mahagony stain. Is this something that can be done with good results?

Yes it can be done, you really however need to know what your doing, if you sand too much in one area the top will tear out, i always start an acoustic refinish process with mapping out the current thickness at multiple locations, many times I have after mapping the surface out, cancelled the refinishing job and returned it to the customer as is

Thanks for the important information, I might just leave it as is. It still sounds great.
