Default The Moment I realized I lost 25 years of my Life

As time has gone on this last year I notice how much the world has changed, How much it's got out of control...
How much Cars/SUV/Truck prices have got out of control...Avg. payment $550??? what the heck..
Rent....??
Home prices..??
My oldest is 43
My youngest 10
The last time I played out as a Band...1998
When was the last time I saw band members 2001

Where have I been??? when did it change? It's like I've been locked up in a cell, cut off from the world...

And then I did the numbers, 25 years I've lost but How? where did I lose them?

It took me several days to come up with the reason...............

I started my computer up for the first time 25 years ago...

Cars in particular have gone down in price when adjusted to inflation. Especially when considering the technology (safety and entertainment) they have nowadays.

I sent my first electronic mail in 1995.

It gets worse? Dang I’m about to be 31 and it’s been a blur really since I graduated high school 13 years ago. I don’t even know what happened to my 20’s.

Incredibly astute observation, and one I concur with 100%.

My first new car (a VW Super Beetle) cost $1995 in 1972, and I purchased my first house for $16,000 (monthly mortgage payments of $102 per month) in 1973. Yeh, things have sure changed - not sure where I've been either....

Haven't played out with a band since 1998...

Dont worry, that still pays the same.

If you are lucky - around here, it's for nearly free most of the time.

It was back then also... That's why we started doing private parties at $100 a person
.We spend one winter at this little hole in the wall.. $25 a person but we used it as practice night... trying out new songs to a live(If you could call them that) crowd lol

OP laments (on an online forum) wasting time on computers. Someone sends him a link to to an online video for the answers...

The irony was just what I needed to jump start my Monday morning.

Thanks AGF!

Back in the mid 90's when I was in college in Columbus, OH, I was playing a lot (for me) of solo guitar gigs - easily 100 a year. I remember talking with a local well known, highly regarded jazz guitarist once. He said that there were a lot more gigs in the late 50s than in the 90s, and that the gigs in the late 50s paid the same as gigs did in the 90s. He said that it was rare for him to get a jazz gig, just occasional country gigs. (Lot's more opportunities to play 3 chords for hundreds of people than to play hundreds of chords for 3 people). He had invested in rental properties back in the 60s and 70s, and thats how he made a living.

My son has a rock band. He recently had the opportunity to schedule a 2 hour solo gig, and he invited me to help him out, because he doesn't have 2 hours worth of solo material. We will resurrect some of the Spanish guitar stuff that we used to do when he was in high school - over 15 years ago. And I will also play some solo guitar.

Yesterday, while dusting off some of the solo tunes, I had the same thought as the title of this thread: Where did 20 years go? While I have continued to play somewhere between 10 - 50 gigs a year with my wife for most of that 20 years, I never intended to stop playing solo guitar gigs for 20 years! How did I go 20 years with nary a single solo guitar gig? When I was in school, I thought that once I finished school that I would have more time for guitar. Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha!

Obla di, obla da life goes on........
