Default Mcilroy AJ20

I am selling my beloved Mcilroy AJ20, something I thought I'd never do, but when Fretted Frog Guitar Shop started their closeout sale, they offered my dream Mcilroy for a price I couldn't ignore, so I am reluctantly selling what I thought would be my lifetime guitar.

Many of you probably know Mcilroy, but for those who don't, Dermott Mcilroy worked at Lowden Guitars for a decade before going his own way. He incorporated some of the Lowden approach and added some of his own and he builds an absolutely killer Irish guitar. This one has it all: big sound, overtones, balanced and rich. The wood choices and finish work is incredible.

AJ is a jumbo, equivalent to the Lowden O. Sitka top, Kew Gardens Walnut back and sides. 5 piece neck.

This is serial 181. John at Shoreline is pretty sure it came through his shop. I am the second owner since 2011, I bought it off a fellow AGF member.

It came with a Fishman Ellipse pickup which I removed, so there is some residual inside where the battery bag lived. (see pic.) The binding has one dent on the lower bout, about 1/8" inch and two 'indents' on the upper bout that are almost impossible to see. The Mcilroy logo sticker is slightly unseated on the headstock. It came to me that way and has never moved. If not for these issues, the guitar would be considered mint. I would describe it as 'excellent' due to these factors.

It is a monster player and probably the most versatile guitar I have owned. The Walnut is spectacular. Dermott tap tones his tops and hand carves his bracing and the responsiveness of the guitar shows his craft.

Guitar is in excellent condition. Properly humidified and currently at 46%.
Low action. 25.5" scale, 1 3/4" neck. Hiscox flight case.

A new equivalent Mcilroy is around $3450 as far as I can tell. If you are wanting to get into an Irish Jumbo acoustic, I doubt you can do better than this one for the price.

$SOLD plus $80 shipped and insured to lower 48 or actual shipping internationally.

Let me know what else would be helpful to know.

McIlroy AJ’s produce HUGE and lush tone. I’ve had a couple AJs, and my AJ15 is a lifetime guitar. Wish I had more arms and hands. Best of luck with this beauty.

I can see that it has a 1 3/4" nut. Can you describe the "feel" of the neck carve? Slender? Sort of medium? Chunky?

Thanks.

G'day Ken, I would say it is slim. I really struggle to describe necks, but I find it much more comfortable than a Lowden neck, if that helps. I suppose it is a slim C shape neck. Would a pic help?

Steve, I know what you mean, it is hard to describe a neck "feel" unless it is super-slim or really gigantic.

But you answered my question, no photo needed, thanks.

Gorgeous guitar, good luck with your sale!
