Dear Prudence for its shimmery glow.
It won’t be long for its early exuberance.

#1. "While my Guitar Gently Weeps"
#2. "Here Comes the Sun" (Main reason for choosing both selections: George Harrison)

Early song: Please Please Me. Not because it's the "best", but because it blew my 15-year-old head off in 1963 when I first heard it. "What the heck is THIIISSS? I want MORE of it!"
Late song: This is harder. The medley at the end of Abbey Road is probably the finest composite thing pop music ever produced (leaving Sgt Pepper aside for a moment), so that's a contender. Strawberry Fields/Penny Lane may be the finest single ever released. A Day in the Life is the generally acknowledged masterpiece. Oh which is it to be? How to choose? I go for Penny Lane, because in its world the sun is always shining, and because 1966/67 was probably the best time ever to be alive, especially if you were nineteen years old.

I Saw Her Standing There - I like the upbeat pace of this song.
Abby Road medley - those final words by Paul give me shivers up my spine every time I hear them. What better lyrics to cap off their career as a group. "And in the end, the love you take is equal to the love you make."

I find everything about Penny Lane, music, lyrics, and arrangement, to be absolutely brilliant!

Limiting it to two songs gives me a bad case of cognitive dissonance. There are so many great Beatles songs, and I have so many different reasons for putting a number far greater than two on my "favorite Beatle song" list.
So randomly selecting one reason, these two make it onto that extensive list based upon their signature, completely irresistible (to me) riffs: I Feel Fine Norwegian Wood

Lyrically, I'd have to go with "Things We Said Today".
Grabbing me melodically, I'd choose "For You, Blue". |

I'm with Deacon Blues on "Things we said today". Great song to play and sing. The verse's have a nice steady minor groove and catchy hook back to the minor groove. The "chorus or bridge" has a very jazz influenced feel to it. If you take liberties with the song you can put a guitar or harmonica "vamp" in there to break it up and extend it. Very cool song for sure.
