Default Need some pedal power guidance. UPDATE

I just got my Bose S1 this week. I’m trying to put together a battery powered rig. Have read that you could use a phone charger with a USB to 9Volt adapter. The preamp I will be using uses AA batteries that only last three hours. What size battery charger would I need and does it make a difference whether the adapter is 9 V center positive or negative? I’m not even sure my question make sense but if it does and anyone can offer some advice I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks.

Hey Ruppster,

I’m not sure if you’re just wanting to power the preamp, or if you have a pedalboard as well. Either way, you could use the Volvo 2. It’s capable of powering 5 or six pedals (dependent on the total amperage draw) for four hours or more. It’s a nice little unit, and I use it for the convinence of not having to run power to my pedalboard. Works great. I have 5 pedals I use it for.

Here’s a link to it on Sweetwaters site: https://www.sweetwater.com/store/det...e-power-supply

Your question makes no sense to me, as you stated might be the case. The Bose takes a battery and your preamp takes batteries. So what exactly are you trying to power with the phone charger/USB/9v rig?

Shouldn’t you be buying a power supply? Not a battery charger?

Get a Visual Sound/Truetone 1spot 9 volt power supply for your preamp. Its quiet where some power supplies are noisy.

The batteries only last three hours. I don't want to worry about them nor do I want to change them halfway through the gig.

You're right...I want a rechargable power supply.

I've never used a rechargeable power supply myself, but I can tell you that using the wrong polarity will damage your pedal. If your pedal accepts a negative tip, do not plug a positive tip into it.

Are you trying to your preamp or your pedalboard or your Bose speaker?

Sorry, my ignorance is confusing...The Bose has it's own battery. Was trying to find portable power supply for a couple of pedals so I don't need any juice for certain gigs. I have a Zoom Acoustic Creator I use when not using my full pedal board. It has EQ, tuner, boost, feedback buster, etc. Takes two AA batteries but they don't last longer than three hours. Three hours seems pointless. Looking for alternatives.

I recommend Rockboard or Big Joe power. Rockboard comes in a half dozen colors. I have 2 in silver. Never even think about power.

Here is a post from a few years ago in which I describe my experience using a phone recharger battery to power my pedals. Note that my power requirement is low – the Red-Eye is phantom powered – so you will need to do some calculation to make sure a pedal will work for you.

My concern for you is if the pedal takes 2 AA batteries that’s a total of 3volts(1.5 each).... most of these power supplies are 9-12 volt....not sure if that would damage your pedal??

I'm far from being an electronics tech, so basically my answer is "I have no idea". But if the pedal has an input for external power, it seems that there should be some specs about what it needs, either on the pedal itself or in the manual.
