Default Suggested songs for guitar with harmonica

I recently got a G harmonica and neck holder. First song I learned was Heart of Gold (N. Young). Pretty easy to learn.
Help me out: what are more suggestions for easy-to-learn songs (easy for harmonica, at least) that include harmonica while playing guitar? Doesn't matter what key they're in. I can always get the appropriate keyed harp. I just want to increase my repertoire. Thanks for your replies.

First of all, good luck with continuing success playing guitar and harmonica together. It's something I've been doing since I was about 9 when I used a homemade harp rack (bent coathanger) and a plastic ukulele. My gear is a little better nowadays. I don't know what brand/model harp you have, but I always recommend Hohner Special 20s. I've got a complete set of 7. Great harps for guitar accompaniment. The Hohner Big River harps are good ones too, for less money. And, I still own a uke, but I play my harps with three different guitars. My rack is the cheapo HH-01 Hohner rack. I think it's as good as any of 'em.

Songs I like to do;

- Heart of Gold (as you mentioned)
- Hard Times Come Again No More (an old one by Stephen Foster)
- Reason to Believe
- Sloop John B.
- Mr. Tambourine Man
- The Last Thing On My Mind
- Till I Gain Control Again

1000s more out there, but these'll get ya started.

Here are a few songs I've done with a G harmonica:

I Should Have Known Better
You've Got to Hide Your Love Away (to play flute part at end)
Son of a Son of a Sailor
A Pirate Looks at Forty

Here are some others:

The Boxer (C: for instrumental solo)
Margaritaville (D: for intro, turnarounds and instrumental part)
Cheeseburger in Paradise (D: for intro, turnarounds and ending)

Note that several of these songs don't have harmonica parts. However, a harmonica can be an effective way to fill out a song without adding other band members.

How about "Long Ago and Far, Far Away"?!!!!!

Just kidding, just kidding...

A good friend of mine does the old Procol Harum tune, "A Whiter Shade of Pale", on 12 string guitar and harmonica (for the intro/organ line...)... makes a pretty cool rendition!

You can always dig into the Bob Dylan catologue as well; lots of great tunes in there with a harmonica! The nice thing about most Dylan songs is that they really lend themselves to "re-arranging"; changing keys, changing the tempo or grooves, even changing the lyrics a bit (which Bob has been known to do, on the fly...).

Blue Rodeo is a great, well respected band out of Canada for the past 20+ years. I don't think they're well known in the US but Bad Timing is a great song with harmonica.

Oh, that's a great song! Really love that one. Makes good use of his range too.

Remember "Can't You See" by the Marshal Tucker Band? Replace the flute with a harp and it really works well. I capo way the heck up and do it in A.

A lot of Chicago blues and Delta blues has harmonica. Little Walter was the best of them IMO. Jimmy Reed is good for playing to as well.
