Now, I just want to put down my guitar and go get something to eat.

Seriously, it is a good way to think about it and memorable for sure.

Best,
Jayne

What a good idea! It is so simple that I'm surprised no one has thought of it before.

OK what's the difference between Cinnamon Bun and Strawberry Jam?

And what's the difference between Apple Turnover and Pizza Casserole?

These are serious questions, but I'll also accept joke replies.

The eighth and sixteenth notes are reversed on both. Sorry, too late in the day for a spunky response....

I'm afraid I still don't understand.

I would count out both Cinnamon Bun and Strawberry Jam as "One and a two" (Cinn-a-mon Bun / Straw-be-rry Jam), and I would count out both Apple Turnover and Pizza Casserole as "One and two and a" (A-pple Turn-o-ver / Pi-zza Cass-er-ole).

What on earth is pizza casserole, any way?

They have. I used this method when teaching kids guitar about 25 years ago, and I got it from a teacher in a Usenet group at the time.

eg. 'Tea - tea - coffee - tea' to get them to think rhythmically when strumming rather than simply copying strum pattern directions.

My guess was: all the ingredients of a pizza, sans crust, thrown into a casserole dish and baked.

Googled it and I was correct:

OK, thanks for that.

Any idea what the difference between Cinnamon Bun and Strawberry Jam is?
Cinn-a-mon Bun = One-and-a two
Straw-be-rry Jam = One-and-a two

Any idea what the difference between Apple Turnover and Pizza Casserole is?
A-pple Turn-over = One-and two-and-a
Pi-zza Cass-er-ole = One-and two-and-a

To my ears, when spoken, the “straw” is dragged out a bit, and “berry” is spoken faster. “Cinna” matches the speed of “berry”. I guess you could argue that “mon” isn’t dragged out quite as long as “straw”, but I get the point.
