Default Shot glass stuck in coffee mug

Any suggestions on how to get these two separated without breaking one or both?

Maybe pour some olive oil over where the two surfaces touch? Perhaps the oil will be able to seep between them and enable you to loosen it.

Here's another tip, but you'll have to modify this procedure, obviously, because of the way your glasses are stuck together. I bet if you turned the coffee mug so that the shot glass was vertical, and then fill the shot class with ice cold water, you could then run hot water over the side of the mug.

Turn the mug over in the sink and pour boiling water over the mug and the shot glass should fall right out.

That's how you do it. Done it before!

I would try hot water first. Boiling water might break the glass.

Try placing the mug on it's side and just rolling it along the surface of a counter or table; just roll it as far as you can, and them back...it might take 3 or 4 full rolls. that's what they do when one pint glass is put inside another (like when stacking them on a shelf), and for some reason they are inseparable later on.

If that doesn't work, I'd put warm hot water on the outside of the mug, not boiling water.

Update: thanks for the suggestions. I poured a lot of boiling water on the mug. Nothing broke but the 2 vessels did not separate. I put an ice cube on the shot glass and to tried again but no go. I tried to pull it out but I'm afraid of severing a finger which would jeopardize my chances of overtaking Tommy Emmanuel as AGF's favorite virtuoso.

Oh, and it wasn't much of a party. Just a few friends hanging out.

OK, now try putting a towel on a wooden surface and turn the mug upside down and bang it on the towel. That should do it. The shot glass can't defy gravity!

Unless the mug or the shot glass has special meaning for you, you could trash them and get new ones.

fill it with water and put in microwave. Boil the water. Take it out. Pour out water. Fill with bourbon. Drink

Seriously, glass and ceramic probably expand and contract at different rates, so try putting in the freezer and see what happens.

If not, tell your friends it is a tavern puzzle.

Fill it with boiling water and soap. 5 minutes later try to wiggle it out using tongues or something.
