Emerald neck and tone
I love the look of the Emerald Artisian, in green woody...but, like many forum members, I worry about an instrument I have never seen in person.
The website advertises their necks as a "comfortable shallow C shape" Does anyone know what that might compare to? I have a rainsong, with the original neck, and a Taylor 714. Either of them? Also...I use a mosaic pedal for 12 string effect...and struggle to keep the rainsong from sounding too brittle. Has anyone played an emerald x20 thru one? Did you like the sound? Thanks Gerry |

I have owned both the Emerald X20 and the Rainsong APLE Shorty, though not at the same time. To my best recollection, both necks were similar - C shaped. I liked neither but I'm more of a V shape guy.

On my X20, the neck thickness is between the Taylor 814 and the RainSong Shorty with the N2. The Taylor is my favorite neck profile, but the X20 is a close second. I find the X20 very comfortable.
No experience with the Mosaic pedal. |

Bearmnan, I have a thin neck GX which is similar to my 1990s 1.69 Taylor 710 neck.
When I ordered my X10N, I was assured that the standard Emerald neck would be similar in profile. It is not. It's flatter and wider, more of a flat C that a shallow C. I affectionately call it my "2x4" because that's what it feels like coming from the GX. That's not necessarily a bad thing ~ I can adapt ~ just a different feel. I think Emerald can accommodate if the neck profile is important to you. I would just be sure to double down on specifics so you actually get what you think you are getting. |

X20 neck profile
I discussed neck profiles with Sean for my "in-progress" X20 Woodie. For a small upcharge I opted to go with the Taylor neck profile for my build. Emerald has the precise specs for the Taylor neck (and emailed a pic of the diagram) so no effort on my part was required to take a mold of an existing preferred neck and send it to them.
I went with the Taylor neck profile for its comfort. I found the standard X20 neck just a bit chunkier than I prefer and this was a no brainer option for my Woodie. |

The standard neck on my X20 is a flat C shape, I wasn't sure about it at first, but adapted quickly and it now it is my favorite. The RS N2 feels much thinner and deeper.

How much of an upcharge was the Taylor neck profile? |

Reply sent in PM. I'm sure Sean would be happy to provide a quote for anyone considering a commissioned Emerald guitar. I hope to update with a NGD post in the next month or two.

My x7 is a flattened C or D shape. My Rainsong neck is definately more C shaped withiout being pointy like those horrid V shapes.
