I think I'm gearing up to sell my Rainsong Bluegrass Short Scale Dread.

It's an excellent guitar but never sees any action since I've gotten the Emeralds.

Do you still have the CA GX Tribal in your profile picture?

Definitely. As well as playing in standard tuning, I also play various Hawaiian slack key tunings, and it sounds great as low as B-flat. (And maybe it would go lower; I haven't tried it.)

I have a Baritone on the way from them right now and should have it later this week.

Now I'll own the triple threat with a X20 6 string , X20 12 String and a X20 Baritone.

Very excited about this as they play live very well and record really great too!

Wow, congratulations! I love my X20, and having a 12 string and a baritone to go along with it… that's just heaven.

Pics when you get it, OK?

I'll set them up for a picture once it arrives for sure!

I have an X20 and a Lucky 13 and I think the X20 is the better all around guitar, but I really really like the Lucky and would be happy if it was my only guitar. I have played Rainsongs, but don't own one but I think I would say the same there too. The Lucky just edged out a Rainsong when I was shopping for another guitar.

My youngest son owns an Emerald X20 that I gave him several years ago, when Emerald guitars still had Parker fretboards and all models had a traditional center sound hole. The guitar is still a beauty and has fantastic projection, however it never had a particularly great bass. I always thought about it as a perfect finger style guitar. I am glad to understand, from the comments of many forum members, that today's Emerald X20s have a more powerful low end !

Update - after speaking to Ted at LA Guitars and Sean at Emerald, i ended up ordering both the X20 and the Rainsong hybrid smokey. I have ordered a Rainsong Smokey with standard specs from Ted and i have ordered a custom cocobolo X20 Artisan from Emerald direct. Thanks to Ted and Sean for their helpful input and also to all of you fellow agf members for chiming in your thoughts. I will do a review once i have them in my hands.

I think that the Emerald X20 is definitely a better choice than the Smokey, at least for my personal taste. I like Rainsong hybrid guitars in the OM size, but I am not a fan of the Smokey.

Default Emerald X20

I have a X20 Quilted Maple, 13 fret, 25.5 scale, pinless bridge with K&K pure mini pick up that is pretty loud. For me, I have a problem with the balance between the sound hole location and my amp, it sounds like there's two different tones when I'm plugged in. Acoustically it sounds very balanced and full, since I wanted a guitar to play out that I didn't have to worry about and I need to be plugged in, I may let this one go.
