Congrats!
Nice top! Would you say this is an acoustic bass, electric bass, or both. Really curious how these sound without amplification.
Did you custom design it, or stock? |

Custom. That's a spalted chen chen top. I consider it an acoustic bass.
I also have a Ribbecke Halfling acoustic bass which sounds almost like an upright double bass (Ribbecke is a genius) so compared to that, the Balor is a little louder acoustically and has more transparent top end, almost glassy. It pairs well with the Ribbecke as they both look great but sound very different. I spend about 6 months of every year living in a high altitude desert so the lack of humidity has required me to obtain a bevy of carbon fiber guitars because trying to keep a wood acoustic healthy is too difficult (like having to fill case humidifiers daily) in that environment. There's a lot of flack on the internet about acoustic bass guitars by bass players but for a guitar player who wants to record their own bass tracks or might even play solo (think Bach preludes, etc.) these instruments are fantastic. Bass players gonna be bass players. Ribbecke Halfling acoustic bass example:
