A Cort in my head
I am considering buying this Cort Cut Craft.
Anyone here has it or played it, per chance? Vids on utube leave much to be desired in terms of getting a clear idea of the sound (as always, not just in this case) and I could not find any proper review. I cannot order it at my local shop unless I buy it but Thomann has a 30 days return "no question asked" policy so if I ordered it through them I could return it if unsatisfied. Yet I would prefer to know a little more before commiting myself to it. Thank in advance for any advice/suggestion/comment. Here is a link to the Cort webpage with guitar's details and below a pic of it https://www.cortguitars.com/product/..._id=1560496864 On paper it seems like an unbelievable buy. All solid woods (European Spruce top and Master Grade solid Myrtlewood for back and sides, fanned fretboard, body and cutaway bevels, soundport... the works!!) EDIT: I've just realized on the original title I wrote Cord instead of Cort. Fixed. Sorry if it caused any confusion.

If Thomann really has a good return policy and you are willing to take the chance, why not? Be prepared to get charged for the outbound shipping to you. The shipping back to them is almost always paid by the person returning the item, so there is some cost. Cort has a decent reputation as a builder of low and mid-priced imported instruments. I think they are built in Korea? I did not see the price, but there are a lot of features there.
Myrtlewood is a lot like koa tonally, or maybe maple. I spent this morning outside jamming with a forum buddy, him playing his brand new Breedlove all myrtle Concertina and me playing my Taylor all koa GA. They sounded pretty similar to me. |

Impressive looking guitar, if I was a budding finger style player I would definitely like to check it out.

Be aware that Thomann has a website that says Thomann USA but the orders (and returns) are processed through their warehouse in Germany.

Sorry I forgot to mention the price tag is 1399euro (about 1564 US $).
Thomann would ship the guitar free of charge. I own a Cort (parlour) and played a few others and they all sounded really good, more so considering their cost.

Free shipping to you is normal at that price point. But check carefully about return shipping in case you want to return it. Then decide. Since you quote price in Euros we assume you are somewhere in the EU. I have no idea what the return polices or consumer laws might be. For example, if there are Customs fees and duties associated with getting it to you, these are often NOT refundable for returns. Just be informed ahead of time.

I like that Cort are adding in some really cool and ergonomic features. I had a look at their website and there are other neat acoustics, and quite a few with armrest bevels.
My concern isn't with the features or even the build quality, which I'd guess is pretty good for this price point. It's that the sound isn't as great as the rest of the guitar (maybe overbuilt?). Picking Moose, seems like that's your concern as well. |

Indeed. Having a greatly built guitar with an average sound is not my intention.
At the end of the day when I have the urge to play I pick "that" guitar because I know the sound will please me , not for it's looks. And yes, I live in Italy.

Hey Earl, if the OP is in the EU, there will be no ‘customs fees and duties’. The EU is a Free-Trade Area, and shipments between member-states are free from customs fees, import taxes, duties, and tariffs of any kind. VAT may be chargeable on the sale, but it would be credited back should the OP choose to return the instrument.

Live and learn. Thanks JB. I know that our Canadian cousins to the north get hit with GST and VAT. And our Aussie friends too. The Emerald guitars that I have ordered from Ireland to the US do not get hit with those extra fees, but a very few here have reported it happening anyway.
Good luck, Moose. I cannot help with first hand reports. I simply don't see Cort instruments in the few music stores that I visit here in Idaho. |

I will not commit myself until end of August anyway, so there's still time to find out more about it.

Thinking about an economic downsizing and the Cort Gold O6 is tempting as a budget-friendly target. I'd love to find a stocking dealer somewhere near Atlanta to at least get familiar with the neck shape.

Thank you to all who stepped in with comments views and suggestions.
I decided not to get the Cort but, instead, take a loan and have a guitar made for me by a trusted guitar maker (he made me 1 already over 10 years ago). It will not have all the features of the Cort but it will sound 10 times better (and more). I will make a thread if I can as soon as the building starts, hopefully in the next few weeks.
