Default Song suggestions?? PLEASE help!!

Hey all you AGF'rs! It's been a long time since I've been around but I need some help and could think of NO better place then hear to seek that help! I have a gig Saturday night and my mom is throwing my father a surprise 50th birthday party at the coffeehouse. I would LOVE to sing a song for my father but can't for the life of me think of a good song to do. Any suggestions? I will most likely have to learn it from the ground up between now and Saturday so please help if you can!! Thanks all!

There's a Paul Overstreet song Seeing My Father In Me that's very nice.

You can probably find a download on Amazon or iTunes, Lyrics:

Last night we brought the children by to visit their Grandpa
And it's plain to see they're truly part of him
While we were there
Their Grandma took out some old photographs
Man, he sure looked a lot like me back then

CHORUS: I'm seein' my father in me
I guess that's how it's meant to be
And I find I'm more and more like him each day
I notice I walk the way he walks
I notice I talk the way he talks
I'm startin' to see my father in me

And today I took my wife for a walk
Down that old dirt road
Where my Daddy took my Mom so many time
And we found the time
To mention things we never had before
And we shared some thoughts about the family life

(REPEAT CHORUS)

BRIDGE: And now lookin' back I can recall the times we disagreed
When I could not take hold of his old fashioned ways
And the more I tried to prove him wrong
The more I proved him right
Now I know why he still stood by me
When I went through that stage

(REPEAT CHORUS)

Tag: And I'm happy to see my father in me

AND... if you REALLY want to make everybody cry ...

Try OLD FOLKS by Mike Reid

sorry, can't find the lyrics...

With a little luck, and the Lord to see us through

Someday we will be Old Folks too

You could do "cat's in the cradle" and depress the heck out of everybody

I'll second the suggestion of asking your mom. She's bound to know several songs he likes and then you can pick one that means something to him.

I see that you are from Oklahoma, so I assume a country tune might work? if so, how about "I Thought He Walked on Water"

Hey, my favorite on that subject is "Between Father's and Sons" by Waylon Jennings. It's off his album "Hanging Tough"

I would recommend something that he knows from "back in his day". "Everything I Own" by Bread was a daddy song. "Secret O' Life" by James Taylor would be good. Ummmm... It's tough to make a good suggestion without knowing your dad. What are some of his favorites?

Default thanks

Thanks for all the suggestions. I wasn't able to get anything worked up in time because my dad wound up staying with me while my wife and mother spent Friday and Saturday hanging out. I printed out this page so I can use the ideas for future reference. Thanks again!

"It's Too Late, Baby."

No, seriously. I was going to suggest "Put It There" by Paul McCartney. You may want to watch the video with your dad (here's the link).
