True indeed. A fundamentally absurd question followed by many folks trying to explain the absurdity to the largely absent OP.

Troll grade for this post: A+

You too can play the game. Just fill in the blank and post:

"I don't get it. Why would anyone want a _____ guitar?" *Sample words might be: large body, mahogany, maple, koa, cedar top, Gibson, Maton, Taylor (or any other brand), custom, 12 string, new, vintage, cutaway, carbon fiber, wood, acoustic electric, sound ported.....and so on.

As you can see from my list below, I own rosewood, koa, mahogany, cedar top, cutaways, carbon fiber, nylon string....pure insanity! I have no idea why I own all these different kinds of guitars, none of which growl.

My bet is the aforementioned artists also have a smaller body or two-
I love a big sound- I love a softer one too.

Here's a thought. With modern amplification, why would you bother with a D or jumbo? A smaller guitar can be made to sound big (if needed).

Like others have mentioned, loud does not equal good. The best guitars I have ever played have been 00 and 000 sized. While I appreciate the D-18 & 28 and a J-45 and some others, OM/OOO sized guitars are the perfect size for me and have a balance that I have never heard in a dread. Again, loud does not equal better. Loud does not equal good. That's not how tone works.

Well, I hope 124 posts will suffice for the OP. Thanks to everyone who made this a good thread with polite, informative posts.

I'll close it with the reminder to all that our FAQs read, "The philosophy at the Acoustic Guitar Forum is that the best guitar for YOU is the guitar that you fall in love with - the guitar that speaks to you. Tone is such a subjective thing... What sounds great to one person might not sound so good to another. That's okay! If you can make music with it, if you love it, it's the right guitar for YOU"!
