OK I voted "no" and discovered that I was one of only two that did so. Let me explain.

I don't even know how many Olympic events there are. I only watch the ones I care about (mainly cycling). I assume others do the same.

What's wrong with that?

I was thinking the same thing. It doesn't bother me at all how many events there are.

I don't care how many events they have. Why would anyone care?

I'm no judge. I don't think golfers are athletes. I think sports have become any competition rather than athletic competitions.

To me the Olympics have and should be about who runs/bikes/swims the fastest, jumps the furthest, throws the longest. Those who win with opinionated scores from opinionated judges are lower on my list. As I write this the men's 10,000 meters will kick off. I will watch that. Fastest runner for 6.2 miles under oppressive heat and humidity conditions wins. Period. No third world judge saying that the winner should be docked a minute because the arms were not held in the preferred Olympic Style.

I’m giving Cypress Knee’s post an 8.5. The Russian judge, however, gave it a 6.

Some of the comments here conjure up images of old geezers standing on their front porches shaking their canes at the neighborhood kids...the Olympics should go back to a bunch of oiled up naked dudes rasslin' in a circle in the dirt; that's how it was in MY day and we liked it...loosen up the bone, Wilma!
I was surprised to see Karate made it's debut this year...

The Olympics should be the pinnacle of achievement in any sport that is represented. I would remove sports where the Olympics is clearly not the pinnacle. Golf, Tennis, Football, etc.

More events, more athletes, and I'm guessing more money to the IOC. What is sad is that tons of money is spent on facilities and then some of them are neglected after the Olympics so that the public can't even use them (some are used obviously).

I don’t know. Table tennis to me equals top notch eye hand coordination, speed, reflex, agility, leg and footwork, balance, endurance, mental focus and overall proprioception not to mention technical skills.

It's a bit much but so is how often I hear all sorts of retro lifestyle arguments.

The events and media have to be paid for. Something to consider there is I know people who for examples did things like resumed cable TV or signed up for Peacock service to see some of the sports others will criticize.

Wound not winter olympics have to be thrown out for the tradition arguments?

Some things coming out this round are great. I was surprised by some who enjoyed surfing and BMX. I work with a woman who ranked in an olympic sport and she rejoiced over two matters - always hated the way clothing made her a sex object, and the pressure to expose herself to horrible risk when she was not in a good physical or mental way to take it on.

That's my thought too. I don't consider table tennis athletic but like archery or sharp shooting there is top level skill involved. Not something I want to watch or follow though.

IOC says it's slated for 2028.
