The Woodsman
My 00 Woodsman model has been popular right from the start so naturally I'm bringing one to the show. I never had a model where I have so consistently had orders for one done like the original.
For BIG I am preparing a Woodsman with a 250yrs old Honduran Mahognay neck, internal parts, back and sides instead of the original's 100yrs+ Eastern Black Walnut. Instead of Black Ebony the fretboard, headstock overlay, bridge and binding will be 5000yrs old Bog Oak. The nut and saddle will be 20,000yrs+ old woolly mammoth instead of bone. A couple other upgrades will gold Evo frets, gold MOP fret side markers and a very traditional looking slothead. So it's all of what the original was and more! Here are some catch up pictures of this guitar in process:

Is that going to be an all hog body ..or what is the top ?
That joint in the 2nd pic is invisible. Nice. |

The top is 100yrs+ Redwood like the original Woodsman. It’s a great color match with the light colored Mahogany isn’t it? It will be even closer when the finish is on.

Thanks Mike! The 00 Woodsman will have the birds mouth style neck joint which is a standard feature on this model. It's the old way to attach the headstock and still the strongest! Mark

Thanks! That is a tricky joint to do so I'm proud I'm getting the hang of it.
I have the sides bent and am setting up the body. Here I am gluing in the Spanish Cedar kerfing and setting up to joint the back: Here the back is on: Finally a picture of the interior of my sound studio: Thanks! Mark

Setting up Top
There are many techniques I use when setting up and voicing a top. The process starts with splitting out the brace blanks and profiling them. I use sash cross joints to eliminate parasitic dead weight and hard spots on the soundboard. I use tapered edges on the bridge plate to reduce weight and stress points. I also use a tapping mold when individually voicing each top.
That's just a few of what I call best practices that I have accumulated over the years. I think where my approach shows results most obviously is in the amount of top end I get, particularly from softer tonewoods like Western Red Cedar and Redwood.
