Japanese vs Spanish

I was looking at handmade models. Around the $2000-2500 Canadian range. I love the look and sound of Cordoba, Raimundo, Takamine and Yamaha.

I was wondering what the general community consensus is. Do people feel that Japanese models sound and feel as good as Spanish models? The price points are similar. Thank you.

The Japanese learned from the Spaniards, beginning in the 1950s, and became world class builders by the 60s.

I suggest looking at used handmade Canadian guitars in that price range.

Agree- it's down to the particular guitar, and there are *lots* of fine makers
up that way..

I think vintage japanese classicals are a very good choice. Look for a late 70s Sakurai, around your budget. I had few and my luthier, who builds classical and is considered one of the best in southern Europe, always considered them concert grade instruments on par with 7000-8000$+ guitars... find a cedar top and you’re in heaven

The current Orfeo magazine features Japanese luthiers, providing lots of info on which Spanish makers inspired them back in the day.

As far as I know you're right. I just received the bundled hard copy of 11-15 today.

Me too, I have a printed copy of 11-15, good quality, but a shame it's not hardback. One of my guitars does feature in issue 11 though.
