nylon lends well to fingerstyle blues in standard tunings and I think getting used to the wider fretboard might be of benefit, but for blues in open tunings with slide, its not the best option, and nylon strings don't work the best for bending strings in solo work because well the string rolls off the finger in bends, stretches out of tune cause its nylon, and the decay on a bent note on nylon is...well it just isn't as good as steel.....those are the only drawbacks I can see...if you stick to slides over bends and get used to the wide traditional classical fretboard, you'll be hard pressed to step backwards into 1.75 nutwidth guitar...go for it...
