I'm gonna get thrashed somewhere for saying this, but I completely agree. Occasionally I think certain songs just sound "right" even with the old Ovation piezo "quack." I typically try for as close to natural a sound as I can achieve, but sometimes the old Ovation electronics just "fit" for me.

That ought to get a few duck hunters out of the woods.

Well, the guys at Ovation have come up with the goods! The Ovation 2073LX arrived a few hours ago and after leaving it a few hours to cool down after its infernal mid-summer tour of Miami, I opened it about 30 mintues ago. Looks great, plays great and sounds great! I'm thoroughly delighted with this guitar as a first impression.

Maybe the search for a great nylon crossover is now well and truly over!

Heck if anyone was around in '70s and '80s Ovations were all over the place. Some of the biggest artists of the time were playing them...Glen Campbell for instance.

Sadly, they did that thing that seems to be irrestible for many smaller quality companies; they went "Big Time". Quanity went way up...quality went way down.

David Gilmour has had an Ovation or two on-stage most of the time, even though it looks like a Taylor displaced one of them.

I had an Ovation Classic in the early 80s. It was fun to play and sounded great, but after a couple of years it got traded in on a new Legend cutaway.

I am gald to hear that you finally found the crossover that suits your taste & need. I know how frustrating and exhausting the search can be, sometimes to the point of giving up. Believe me, I have been there. When you finally do find a match, it is truly worth the wait. Enjoy! I am sure you will make beautiful music together.

Thanks a lot, Toni. I have to say I'm utterly delighted with this Ovation 2073. The top is a lovely dark cedar, the neck is beautifully grained and has a pure thick ebony fretboard. The tuners, electronics, and construction are all top quality. But what seals it for me is that as well as having one of the best preamps on the market, the guitar sounds great played acousitcally. It really is a shame that this model doesn't appear in the vast majority of stores. It's one of those guitars we either have to take a gamble on or try something else.

I bought a Celebrity with nylon strings, a few weeks ago. They worth every buck, nice guitars to put in a stand and play when you got some ideas. Very good neck feel, and sound (obviuosly, plugged in, way better even )

Absolutely. There's nothing quite like the feel of an Ovation neck.

I've just strung my guitar up with Savarez Alliance hard tensions and it sounds just great.

In the mid-70s, I had an Ovation Classical electric, standard 12-fret neck with classical width at the nut. I bought it because I sometimes needed to amplify in some situations and the built in pickup was much more efficient than a microphone. Sold it around 1980 to help pay for a semester of university music studies.
If I didn't already have a Gibson Chet Atkins CE and a Godin nylon with synth access, I'd probably be in the market for an Ovation to use in situations needing amplification.

Default 1977 Ovation 1613-4

I have 1977 Ovation 1613-4 that I'm looking to sell or trade. It's in excellent condition with minimal wear for a 33 year old guitar. Original case has seen better days but it's in working order. 12-frets to the neck, 1 7/8" neck, deep-body style, Spanish Pine top.

I've made the switch to the wider classical nut width, so if anyone is interested, make me an offer!

Fred

Don't sell that beauty short, isn't that a 33 year old guitar? Sure wish I had the funds right now!
