Fernando Sor (1778-1839) was a Spanish classical guitarist and composer. Although he is best known for his guitar compositions, he also composed music for a wide range of genres, including opera, orchestra, string quartet, piano, voice, and ballet. Sor's contemporaries considered him to be the best guitarist in the world.

Fernando Sor’s guitar sonatas rank among the most important compositions in the guitar repertoire, harmonically exquisite, at times full of melancholy and longing, but also lively and virtuosic. Op. 25, Guitar Sonata No. 4 in C major was written 1826 in Moscow and published 1827 in Paris as “Deuxième grande sonate”. The fourth movement Minuet and Trio is one of RCM (The Royal Conservatory of Music) Grade 6 repertoire.
