Default No, I'm not emailing you about a price

One of my pet peeves about shopping online is when a vendor doesn't list prices and just puts "email us for price" on the info page for a guitar.

It's not going to happen.

Even if it's a guitar I am very interested in, I would rather buy from an upfront seller than the "email/call" type.

If I'm shopping and I'm looking to spend $6,000 maybe $8,000 I'm not going to care if you're $100 more than Guitar Center, or some place that would involve $300 in shipping

Ok, rant over.

The price is probably below MAP and they can't advertise it? Just my guess.

Bothers me too. Always wonder if they give every caller the same price.

I wholeheartedly agree with this. Just give them a try, you might be surprised at the price.

With no context it's hard to draw that conclusion, but I immediately wondered if they are offering below MAP or, like is the case with some Gibson dealers, they may not have rights to sell online. Or, like Rickenbacker, they technically don't let most dealers post prices online. If it's any of those, I forgive it. If it's so they can decide how fair their price is the day you call, I don't like that...it's a waste of everyone's time.

You can always get a better price when you call.

I don't mind if I'm really interested. If I'm just looking around to see what's out there probably move on. Like the others have said, it probably is a price below their MAP. I haven't been around the used market enough to know what goes on there. But either way, stuff like that doesn't bother me. There are lots of guitars out there with prices on them to look at if I don't like to send an email and ask.

I was on a very well known shop's site the other day after someone posted a link to a guitar for sale here - there wasn't a single word regarding condition on any of their used instruments, very few specs and no pricing at all.

I think the game might be to get you to contact them so they have your info (email/phone number)

Not saying I wouldn't engage, just that I'm less likely to do so.

I am guessing the OP is referring to private seller ads for used gear. I have seen this practice myself and can admit I have never bothered called to call or email an individual who doesn't list a price in their ad. Isn't it pretty typical of guitar online forums that one must include a price when you post a for sale ad?

I feel the same way about luthiers that don't show prices on their sites.

Yep. This is very common. It's not that the seller is hiding something. As others have indicated, they are likely wanting to sell it at a price that is below what the manufacturer allows in advertising. If the seller lists it at the manufacture's MAP, then it could turn off some customers. Some sites have an ability to show you the price once it's added to your cart. Some don't.

I'm not sure why it's a problem to email or call to get the price. Either you like the price, or you don't.

If I call from my Long Island phone, they say ''Oh that's where the rich people live, here's your price''. Cha-ching

If I call from my Upstate phone, where the poor people live; ''Oh well, give this guy a break!''

I agree. I'm going to email them and ask about their best price anyhow...
