Poll: Who lives in its case
I have a 000-15M that lives in its case when I’m not playing it. The other guitars are hanging on the wall, but the 000 and I are still in a good relationship “ we haven’t broken up” and I take special care.
Which of your guitars only come out to play?

All my Taylor's live in their cases. In fact, all my other instruments do too. They all get played regularly. I have no problem taking 30 seconds to get one out of its case. They are nice and safe there, and they all live in my humidity controlled music room/house. So, my instruments are nicely cared for.
The only instrument that doesn't live in its case, is my Martin LXK2, which is in a String Swing in my music room.

I always have two out and the rest in cases. I rotate. Right now it's the Yamaha FG-180 50th and '68 Hummingbird. I'm lucky with no need to humidify or do anything to the guitars in cases. They are detuned until they come into the music room.

I keep my guitars on stands, except for my Taylor. I value it way too much to want any accidents happening. It also has become my go to guitar as well.
I have been keeping it out on a stand as well these past few days...

About the only guitars of mine that are usually out on stands are my Seagull Folk model (downstairs) and my garage sale all-plywood classical guitar (upstairs.). The professional quality instruments stay in their cases until I have something specific to work on.

I keep my small collection all in their cases when I am not playing. I believe it is the best and safest environment for them. I learned this the hard way.
Right place/right time, I was able to buy a top of the line, mint, Guild 12 string at a really good price. This was around 2000. this was a great sounding and beautiful instrument. I had it on a stand, not playing it and resting momentarily but just "storing" it on the stand. In a slight moment of clumsiness, poor depth perception or whatever, I bumped it and it went down. It needed repairs which were done, but I felt kinda' sick about it. Never again. My guitars go into their cases when I am done playing them. I think humidity issues are better addressed for most folks if their guitars are in their cases. |

I live in an area where it's more likely to be a little too humid than too dry. The humidpaks are not as effective for too much humidity; I had a hard time getting my guitars below 65% humidity in their cases earlier this autumn and even my nicest guitar sounded "muddy".
Mine all hang on an inside wall in my living room. I've monitored humidity and temperature throughout my house and that is the best environment for them, generally stays under about 57% humidity even when it's very damp and it's seldom below 45% humidity even with the woodstove burning on unusually cold days. |

All my guitars live in their cases.
Once the kids are out of the house I will probably leave one or two of the Carbon Fiber ones out. Leaving a wooden guitar out in Arizona for more than a day or two is asking for a top crack.

In their cases with their humidifiers. Come out to play, wiped clean when I am done playing and back in their cases they go. I may leave the Larrivee on a stand for an hour or so if I plan to play it again right after lunch, or dinner, for example. If I had a seperate music room with less human traffic I would likely leave the Larrivee out during the day, but it would back into its case at night. Protection and humidity control is so easy with a guitar case. It is a habit for me and is a part of my music ritual. I am good with that.

Mine all hang on the walls. I run whole house humidification. Almost every mark I've put on a guitar has happened taking it in or out of a case, so the wall hangers protect them from their owner.

I had an 000-15M as well - it was my primary and, at times, only acoustic guitar. If I was gonna play it I had to keep it out and easily available. Which meant humidifiers running all winter. When it got cold enough out and dry enough in, I'd case it with humidipaks at night, but I always kept it out during the day.
I've moved on from it and play carbon fiber now, so I don't even have to think about that stuff, but one way or another, regardless of material, I have to be able to keep my guitars handy if I'm gonna play them as much as I want to. I may pick it up and put it down 4-5 times a day, so dealing with a case that much just wasn't gonna happen... -Ray |

All my guitars are kept in the cases, until such time that I decide to play them. It's the *only* way to keep them properly humidified. Life in West Texas climate, is not good for solid wood guitars.
