Tuning machine quandary. Ryan ordered these Schaller Grand Tunes per my instructions, but they aren't quite what I imagined:

They will be going on this peghead (it looks too yellow in this photo, I think - it's Honduran mahogany) -

[QUOTE=SJ VanSandt;5874004]

They also have a set of these Schertlers in the shop:

And I'm sure they could come up with some Gotoh 510s like this:

(They sure look great on this Chris Ensor guitar!)

Feedback appreciated. My fear is that bright gold will distract from all the beautiful woodwork that Stave and Ryan have done. The gray metallic Schertlers, on the other hand, may be a little too subdued, and maybe a bit too modernistic. The Gotohs I would go for mainly for the rosewood buttons, which weren't an option on the gold Schallers (if I remember correctly).

We are getting down to the wire, and if I special order something it could hold up delivery. I'm probably going to go with something they have on hand: I just don't think I can wait much longer!

I’m in love with Gotoh 510 minis in Cosmic black finish. You can change out stock buttons for wood buttons also.

For what it's worth, I like the Schaller Grand Tuners. Imaging it from the front, the buttons look like they will compliment the center stripe.... and they work nice.

Yep, the cosmic black finish is awesome. Same as I used on my build!

I like the dark Schertler option, thinking it will compliment the center stripe.

I would go with the Schallers myself, I think the look matches well..but they're all good tuners.

I think a set of nickel oval button Waverly tuners would look classic and go well with that guitar. I prefer them to Schertler and Schaller.

Ryan did a mock up of those, and I don't like the look, myself. I think they would work better if there was a back-strap that covered up the center stripe, in fact. But maybe I have an overactive imagination: I see a six-eyed alien with long eyelashes.

OK, now that is funny, but to give those of us who chose those a break, this picture is a lot different color than the first one you gave us to work with! I am sure this is much more representative of real life.

I do like that color, John, but I think, in the final analysis, I'm more of an open-back kind of guy. I think we are going with this (only with ebony buttons) -
