Is this saddle too low?
Hi everyone. I don't know if you can tell from these pics but I would love to hear your opinions about this saddle.

That's a good height for a saddle, you can tell from the steep angle of the string coming off toward the peg.

Thanks a lot for the answers! I'm asking because I hear buzzing a little bit even though the neck relief is fine.

Could be the nut groove filed too thin or too low.

You many just have one fret low or one high fret. You can eliminate the nut slots by capo-ing at the first fret and see if you still have the buzz.

Shouldn't be unless top has sunken due to lack of humidification. Or neck has a really bad angle. I can tell you, all my saddles are shorter than that.

Try loosening the truss rod a quarter turn and see if that helps. I know everyone says you shouldn’t, but I’ve done it many many times and it fixed the buzz. It’s a quarter turn doesn’t do the trick, then it’s probably time to take it in to a luthier.

As mentioned, that's plenty of saddle.

I would say that if that guitar is buzzing with the saddle nice and tall like that, and the neck relief is correct, I would suspect that it has gotten just dry enough to bring the action down to where any irregularities in your frets are more apparent.
Step 1 would be to accurately gauge the humidity of your guitar's environment, and correct it if necessary to maintain 40-45% RH. If that doesn't do the trick, I would take it in for a set-up, and perhaps a fret leveling, if required. Alternatively, you may wish to try the next higher gauge of string, which may provide just the amount of additional pull for the strings to adequately clear the trouble area on the fret board. Take care not to place more string tension on the guitar than the manufacturer recommends.

Like others have mentioned, saddle doesn't look low. Regarding buzz, is it on all frets or only some of them?
Try a capo on the 1st fret. If the buzz goes away then you probably have a nut slot cut too low. |

I agree it looks ok down at the bridge end, might be an out of whack fret somewhere down the neck. Or the previously mentioned too deep nut slot. Is this a new problem on an old guitar, or something you're finding on a brand new (or new to you) one? |
