Last weekend i built these two StewMac Ghost Drive pedals. Not a difficult build but maybe not the best first project for a newbie. The pedals both work and sound great. One is on its way to a pal in California who has an original vintage Klon Centaur available for comparison.

I just got an Earthquake Devices "Plumes" pedal. Its supposed to be a Tube Screamer, with a little 3 way switch to choose between different clipping modes, or no clipping for just a clean boost.
To my ear, only one of the modes sounds much like a TS. I think it works better than a TS as a stand alone pedal, but I wanted it for boosting a loose classic OD sound to get a tighter more modern tone when I want it. One of the modes adds more compression, some highs end, and alot more note clarity, and works beautifully for this. |

Fulltone OCD. If I could only have one pedal and a clean amp, I would be fine with an OCD. It cleans up with the volume knob. It works in front of any clean amp. It sounds great stacked with other pedals.
Every electric guitar player should own one. I know Fulltone became persona non grata for some comments he made, then chose to close up shop recently. Independent of all that, the OCD gets my vote for the most useful overdrive ever. Others I love: Lovepedal Zendrive (for leads) Xotic AC Booster (my 2nd vote for "if I could only have one pedal") |

Muff for well for the muff sound! Vox Copperhead Drive for a Marshall distorted tone, and my Keeley tone workstation for clean boost and overdrives.

At the moment......
Mesa Gold mine Nobels ODR-1 I've used so many over the years and most of the time I'm happiest just using a clean boost like the Xotic EP, but the occasional search for high gain crunch never stops for me. The ODR-1 I've had longer than any pedal I've owned and just sounds so good at low gain levels. |

I have an old (new when I got it in '81) Roland Bolt 60 amp which most of you may not have heard of, a compact 60 watter driven by a pair of 6L6s. Clean channel's very Fender like with plenty of headroom. The solid state 2 stage OD channel however is pretty average so back in the day I put one of the early TS808s in front of the clean to good effect.
It was either lost or stolen back in the 80s, wish I still had it. Anyway it was only 5 or 6 years ago soon after getting the amp reconditioned/revalved I decided to revisit OD & was going to go with a TS9 which impressed me but was won over in the end by the Fulltone OCD as it seemed to have everything the TS had plus a bit more. The tone dial & the hi/lo sw add plenty of bite. For the sake of the neighbours & my own hearing I also run the speaker via a THD hot plate to keep the volume down yet keep cranking those tubes just nice.
