Comments: “Larry Pattis is a recording artist with demanding taste in his instruments. In the late 90s he and his musical partner El McMeen were playing Tippin guitars extensively. This one was custom made for Larry as indicated on the label. At a concert I hosted for Larry and El they described to me the great clarity and balance that Bill Tippin's guitars offered them. This beautiful SJT certainly embodies those qualities and like all Tippins can also be driven hard. This is an excellent guitar for Celtic, Blues, Rags, Slide and more. Tippins are among the most versatile instrument being made. This is a fine example complete with cutaway and pickup.”

Good question. I know nothing about it, so I looked it up:

Scientific names Common names
Dalbergia cochinchinensis Pierre Asian rosewood (Engl.)
Siamese rosewood (Engl.)
Thai rosewood (Engl.)
Thailand rosewood (Engl.)
Trac wood (Engl.)

Botany
Dalbergia cochinchinensis is a slow-growing medium-sized evergreen tree reaching a height of 35 meters, with a spherical, profusely branched crown. Trunk is up to 60 centimeters in diameter, occasionally up to 120 centimeters. Heartwood is red or black, distinctly demarcated from the gray sapwood. Flowers are white, small, and fragratn. Pods are think and papery

That's all I really know, other than it is (obvious from the pictures) pretty red in hue. I think it's pretty rare now.
