HOW RAINSONG GOT STARTED: The story begins one rainy afternoon on the island of Maui. John Decker is attending an outdoor wedding when a tropical shower threatens to drench the party, including the solo guitarist. A fledgling classical guitarist himself, John feels the player's dilemma: Should he run for cover and risk the wrath of the bride's family or play on in the rain and ruin his guitar? That day John is inspired to create a new kind of instrument, one that would play beautifully while enduring life's summers and winters, bumps and bruises, and even the occasional downpour, from the tropics to the poles. This instrument -- the world's first all-graphite acoustic guitar -- is the first major advance in guitar making since the Italian masters perfected the present wood instrument nearly 400 years ago. Rainsong guitars are impervious to weather conditions. Decker is a Massachusetts Institute of Technology graduate who did doctoral work on plasma physics at Cambridge before getting involved with space-based optical instruments and other esoteric applied physics. A senior management post at the U.S. Air Force observatory on Haleakala got him to Maui, where his love of music led him to pick up the guitar. This WS-1100 guitar is a rare Rainsong because it does NOT have the ugly barndoor electronics on the bass side of the guitar. Most Rainsongs have this. Also, it is a cutaway, has the shark inlays on the fretboard and has the low profile C shaped N1 neck vs the new N2 bulkier neck that has a truss rod. The original neck doesn't have a truss rod which the guitar, being of graphite, does not need. Here are some RainSong factoids.

1) RainSong has been making guitars since mid 1990's, in Kehei, Hawaii where they started production and in Woodinville, Washington since 2001. They have made on average about 800-1000 guitars per year so estimated total production is about 24,000 through 2021, accounting for ramp up the first few years.
2) RainSong made guitars with the original N-1 neck until 2011 when they started making the N2 neck with a truss rod. They made N1 necks special order thru mid 2014.
3) RainSong made approximately 13,000 guitars with the original N1 neck.
4) All RainSong guitar models that are NOT dreadnaught or jumbo size are cutaway guitars (WS, OM, etc)
5) 97% of all RainSong guitars are built with the barn door electronics and have the model designation of 1000
6) The RainSong guitars without electronics are made as special order only as model designation 1100.
7) There were 39 RainSong WS cutaway model guitars built with the N1 neck and no electronics (WS-1100). All 39 were standard grey graphite color. My WS-1100 is 1 of 39 acoustic WS models.
THEY ARE GREAT GUITARS FOR TAKING INTO COLD, HEAT, ETC

Hello. Just recently started to look into carbon fiber guitars. I’m traveling back and fourth between Florida and northern North Carolina. From 85 degrees to 31 degrees. One of these would be perfect I think.
Have you ever lowered saddle on this one?

Default Question on Rainsong WS-1100

Hi,

No need to lower saddle. They come with perfect action and since neck and guitar is carbon fiber, nothing moves. It doesn't go out of tune and is THE PERFECT TRAVEL GUITAR. N1 neck is the best neck they made..........the early ones from Hawaii are a bit chunkier than the ones from Washington.

Payment expected from buyer in next few hours.
