I have favorite guitars, but not favorite wood. Its not like guitars that share same woods sound anything like the same.

Seriously, Woody, this recording would be my description of my perfect guitar sound. It just really hits me unlike millions of others I have listened to over the past 6 years of being a member here. I may, as they say, be haunted by what I just heard. Not to hijack this thread but my preference (I thought) was Sitka over Rosewood. Dang! I hate it when those voices in my head are right Nick

Favorite is Sitka spruce over East Indian rosewood. I also have Adirondack spruce over EIR and Madagascar RW, but have a slight preference for the woody, warm sound of Sitka.
I suppose Brazilian rosewood may be better than EIR, but this is not realistic for me. Although I have a madi guitar, I don't think it is an improvement over EIR and not worth the higher prices asked for it. |

If you factor in the builder, I'd rather have a plane Jane sitka/EIR from a small shop/custom luthier as opposed to an adi/braz guitar from a large production shop.
If I can have my choice of builder, I'd take adi/braz. But for me, the selection of the luthier is more important than my preference for specific wood species. |

I tried flamed hog but it sounded way too bright for me. Is much denser wood.

Best wood for flamed or smoked hog is applewood. Some swear by hickory, but applewood is the best.......

If your favorite guitar is a Gibson J-45 (sitka/maghogany), will you also like a Martin D-18V or a Taylor 510 because they use the same wood combination?
