Default Fret buzz with capos not with finger?

Tried three (3) different capos at the 7th fret G string all buzz.

Fret the string manually, no problem.

Will take it to an expert next week, just wondering what could be the cause.

Move the capo down one fret and all is well.

Buzzing in front of the capo or in back?

Using a capo, increases the pull down tension, so I would expect the opposite. That is no buzz when capping, and buzz when using fingers, as the extra tension lifts the string ever so fractionally.

Interesting problem

I believe Howard has nailed it.
Back buzz is normally a sympathetic resonance on the sixth string. You won't get the effect if you are only fingering the third string. When I capo on the 7th, the note generated behind the capo on the 6th string is VERY close to the d note when fretting the third string on the 7th.
Back buzz can be addressed by adding relief, or by raising the 6th string at the nut.

If you get that sound with the capos you have used but not when you full barre it is not likely a back buzz. Could be a radius discrepancy between the capos the the fretboard.
