Default How to play "Sailing to Philadelphia" by Mark Knopfler

This is a free tutorial on how to play "Sailing to Philadelphia" on acoustic guitar. I started a thread on my performance of this song HERE a couple of weeks ago.

The ultimateguitar.com chords and lyrics used for this song are HERE.

I hope this might be helpful to some folks here on the AGF.

Thanks Glenn. This will be fun. I just played that album (and other MK albums) on my cross country flight — and thought about adding that to my list. I really enjoy his music.

Two others I have queued up are Postcards from Paraguay and Broken Bones. Ultimate Guitar has some decent TABs and Chord arrangements for those as well. Now I just have to sound like him!

Yes, Mark Knopfler has a magic way with guitars, both acoustic and electric.

Thanks, Glenn, for the update/tutorial. I've been picking away at this since you first posted. I like the extra note you toss in with your, for lack of a better phrase, Travis picking plus. I love the tone of your twelve fret slothead Martin. I have the mahogany version, a OOO-15SM, the tone of which I also love. Keep on keepin' on.

Hi OGG,

Thanks so much for your comments!

I, too, like the tone of the Martin 000-28VS, and I bet your 000-15SM sounds wonderful, too. There is something kind of magic about 12-fret OM size guitars, I think!

I hope this tutorial is helpful to you!
