Same here. The differences between strumming and finger picking, to my ear, are vast and to such extent as to demand from the player a repertoire of skills that make the best use of the instrument. For every piece there's a best methods approach that is neither one or the other but a combination that gives us pleasant articulation, dynamics, color and yet still remains subordinate to the song. I'm assuming songs are the context here because chord strumming is the topic.

Most chords
To my ears most chords lose some interest when notes are duplicated.
When playing triads not duplicating notes opens up whole new voices. There are at least 12 ways to play a C chord on guitar. 4 note chords really start the new voices journey. Master the 12 forms of a Cmaj7 and a whole new world will open up.

4 four note chords?? 6 note chords are where it's at. Major 11ths really add that sound you can't get from any other chord.

Agreed. The "fuller" the better. I also think chords that have the root in both the bass and the treble are the best sounding.

Playing all 6 notes in a 11th chord? You are a far better guitar player than I am.

As a regular barre chord player I am often playing at any given moment in time less strings than those that are fretted.

Your missing the 9 but I see your point.
